POSITION SUMMARY
 

The Nurse Manager position must be held by a Registered Nurse, and the role is accountable to the Director of Care; directs nursing practice and processes in the delivery of a high standard of nursing and personal care in accordance with the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, College of Nurses of Ontario and Canadian Council on Health Accreditation Standards..
 

REQUIREMENTS
 
• Graduate from a recognized school of nursing with a current registration as a Registered Nurse in the Province of Ontario.

 
• Ability to establish a high standard of nursing practice and personal care.

 
• Must have strong leadership, team building and interpersonal skills.

 
• Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in written form.

 
• Computer proficiency essential.

 
• Must have excellent time management skills.

 
• Must possess critical decision-making ability to provide the full range of potential care requirements, assess changes, re-establish priorities, and recognize the need for additional resources when required.

 
• Considerable and recent experience in geriatric nursing preferred.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Direct, on a 24-hour basis, Nursing practice of Regulated Health Care Practitioners and Non-regulated Health Care Practitioners to deliver a high standard of nursing and personal care.

2. Direct, monitor and maintain nursing and personal care documentation to meet resident needs and as it relates to MOH classification/funding requirements.

3. Direct nursing operations ensuring that all units are supplied with all required resources/equipment and provide direction regarding its planning control and continuity on a 24 hour basis.

4. Monitor quality of nursing care in compliance with the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care Standards and departmental policies and procedure.

5. Responsible for monitoring staffing requirements, call-in procedures and deployment of staff, communicating with RPN Team Leaders.

6. Participate in the orientation, mentoring and ongoing evaluation of new staff as required, including performance monitoring.

7. Effective communicator, with regular communications with Nursing and Management teams to ensure quality, compliance with Ministry of Health, Retirement and Long Term Care Standards.

8. Promote communication within the units, with other community agency services and ensure team meetings are held to share information, generate ideas for change, communicate safety and security procedures and coordinate this input.

9. Uphold Saint Luke’s Place policies and procedures as directed.

10.Maintain professional standards and apply them in a fast paced, changing environment, assessing residents, keeping accurate and timely documentation.

11.Familiarity with Occupational Health and Safety policies, procedures and legislation including roles and responsibilities of supervisors.

12.Other duties as assigned.

POSITION SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIES
 

Responsible for all duties assigned in relation to the safety and sanitation of the food served and the presentation and delivery of appropriate diet to each resident. Above must be in compliance with Canada’s Food Guide, current Manual of Clinical Dieticians and Ministry of Health Standards. An efficient team worker, able to relate effectively to residents, visitors, co-workers and supervisors with dignity, respect and compassion. Dependable, punctual, trustworthy,and employee must be willing to work a variety of shifts, weekends, holidays and be available for call-ins.
 

QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS
 
• Grade 12 diploma.

 
• Food Safety Awareness program Certificate (Public Health).

 
• Food Service Workers Course recommended.

 
• Must be physically able to stand and walk short distances, bend and lift, use and handle kitchen equipment and work at a fast pace.

 
• Must be able to handle the mental stress of a fast paced environment while exhibiting a "team" attitude, patience and understanding.
 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assist in the provision of a high quality Food Service Department.

 
2. Assist in the portioning and serving of food items to the residents appropriate to their diet orders.

 
3. Encourage optimum nutritional intake by the residents by providing pleasant and efficient table service and encouragement where required. Report poor appetite level to the Director of Support Services.

 
4. Ensure safe food handling and storage procedures are followed and that equipment is cleaned according to established procedures.

 
5. Participate in Resident Care Reviews, in-service sessions and staff meetings.

 
6. Assist in the set up, delivery and service of food for functions/programs in the Home.

 
7. Ask residents for comments regarding food preferences and meal satisfaction; and report information to the Director of Support Services.

 
8. Report unsafe equipment, conditions and unsafe acts witnessed.

 
9. Know and be able to carry out fire emergency response.

 
10. Observes and works within the guidelines of the H&S Program, including use of personal Protective Equipment, proper reporting of accidents and participation in ESRTW plans (OHSA/WSIA).

Dependable, punctual, trustworthy, and available to work a variety of shifts including evenings, nights and weekends.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Participate in the overall activation process promoting the highest level of physical, social and emotional well-being and lifestyle chosen by the resident.

 
2. Communicate satisfactorily with co-workers and residents.

 
3. Observe and report changes in resident’s physical, emotional, social conditions and abilities; documents changes and care given.

 
4. Cooperate with staff of all departments as a team player; demonstrate responsibility for provision of quality care.

 
5. Perform tasks to the highest standard for which the PSW has been prepared by her/his education and ongoing training at Saint Luke’s Place.

 
6. Observe and report to the Team Leader or Charge Nurse concerns about unsafe conditions, equipment or practices of fellow staff members.

 
7. Know the fire emergency procedures and required response.

 
8. Respect the right and need for privacy, independence, integrity and friendship of residents.

 
9. Exercise care in use of Saint Luke’s Place equipment and residents’ belongings.

 
10. Participate in team meetings, attend in-service education.

 
11. Be regular and punctual in attendance at work; complete assigned tasks and duties in a timely manner.

 
12. Observe and work within the guidelines of the Health & Safety Program, including proper reporting of accidents and participation in Early & Safe Return to Work plans (WSIA)
