Saint Luke’s Place awarded the New Horizons Grant for Seniors
Today’s seniors are living longer and are more active, but too many still suffer from social isolation.
Saint Luke’s Place has received funding in part from the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program. The $25,000 grant received was used to help fund the repair to the aging roof and damage caused by past leaks over our Seniors Active Living Centre (SALC).
The Program is a federal grant and contributions program whose goal is to support projects that help improve the well-being of seniors and foster social inclusion and engagement in their communities.
“Our SALC supports healthy aging through exercise programs, events and billiards for members,” shared Karen Jolley, Director of Finance. “This type of funding is crucial for us to be able to continue to address social isolation for our Seniors with many social events and activities including barbecues, games and informative seminars. The support of the New Horizons Grant means Saint Luke’s Place can continue to provide these offerings in a safe space for our seniors.”
The SALC at Saint Luke’s Place not only includes the wellness centre; but there is a tuck and coffee shop which offers opportunity for fellowship.
“The SALC fosters a sense of community for independent seniors, promoting social interaction, physical wellness, and the overall well-being of its tenants,” shared Judy Bergy, Senior Support Coordinator. “We are thankful for the New Horizons Grant that allowed us to complete essential roof repairs, ensuring that our tenants can continue to enjoy the SALC for years to come.”
