Dietary Aid

Position Summary

Responsible for all duties assigned in relation to the safety and sanitation of the food served and the presentation and delivery of appropriate diet to each resident. The above must be in compliance with Canada’s Food Guide, current Manual of Clinical Dieticians, and Ministry of Health Standards. An efficient team worker, able to relate effectively to residents, visitors, co-workers, and supervisors with dignity, respect, and compassion. Dependable, punctual, trustworthy, and employee must be willing to work a variety of shifts, weekends, holidays and be available for call-ins.

Requirements
  • Grade 12 diploma.
  • Food Safety Awareness program Certificate (Public Health).
  •  Food Service Workers Course recommended.
  • Must be physically able to stand and walk short distances, bend and lift, use and handle kitchen equipment and work at a fast pace.
  • Must be able to handle the mental stress of a fast-paced environment while exhibiting a “team” attitude, patience, and understanding.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Assist in the provision of a high-quality Food Service Department.
  2.  Assist in the portioning and serving of food items to the residents appropriate to their diet orders.
  3.  Encourage optimum nutritional intake by the residents by providing pleasant and efficient table service and encouragement where required. Report poor appetite level to the Director of Support Services.
  4.  Ensure safe food handling and storage procedures are followed and that equipment is cleaned according to established procedures.
  5.  Participate in Resident Care Reviews, in-service sessions, and staff meetings.
  6.  Assist in the setup, delivery, and service of food for functions/programs in the Home.
  7.  Ask residents for comments regarding food preferences and meal satisfaction, and report information to the Director of Support Services.
  8.  Report unsafe equipment, conditions, and unsafe acts witnessed.
  9.  Know and be able to carry out fire emergency responses.
  10.  Observe and work within the guidelines of the H&S Program, including use of personal Protective Equipment, proper reporting of accidents and participation in ESRTW plans (OHSA/WSIA).
