About Long-Term Care

Saint Luke’s Place provides long-term care for 114 residents across four specialized Resident Home Areas. Admissions are coordinated through referrals from Ontario Health atHome.

We offer a range of accommodation options—basicsemi-private, and private rooms—with rates established by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. Co-payment for standard rooms may be subsidized based on income. Our team will work with you to determine eligibility for a rate reduction. Click the Rates button below to view current rates.

Our mission is to provide the highest quality of care and service in a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment. Residents receive individualized assistance with daily living, including:

  • Medical care and medication administration
  • Restorative care and dietitian services
  • Recreation and leisure programming
  • Laundering of personal clothing
  • Housekeeping and maintenance services
  • On-site hairdressing services for grooming and personal care

We are proud to have a dedicated palliative care team that offers compassionate, person-centred support for residents and their families during end-of-life care—ensuring comfort, dignity, and emotional well-being.

In keeping with our holistic approach, pastoral care and social work services are also integral to supporting the emotional, spiritual, and psychosocial needs of each resident.

Air Conditioning

During warmer months, Saint Luke’s Place provides universal access to designated air-conditioned cooling areas for meals, group activities, and independent use. In-room air conditioning is also available for every resident, based on individual preference.

Veterans’ Priority Access Beds

Saint Luke’s Place is authorized to provide Priority Access Beds for Veterans requiring urgent admission to long-term care. All admissions are coordinated through Ontario Health atHome.

Tell me about Saint Luke’s Place

Saint Luke’s Place is a charitable, non-profit seniors’ residential community located in Cambridge, Ontario. Incorporated under the Charitable Institutions Act in 1974, we proudly opened our doors in 1976. Since then, we have been dedicated to providing compassionate care and services to both our Long-Term Care residents and the tenants in our Independent Apartments.

We are a fully accredited long-term care home, demonstrating our commitment to excellence, continuous quality improvement, and accountability in the services we provide.

As an active member of AdvantAge Ontario, we are part of a province-wide network that advocates for and supports the well-being of older adults across Ontario.

What type of Long-Term Care accommodations are offered at Saint Luke’s Place?

At Saint Luke’s Place, we offer basic, semi-private, and private rooms across our four Resident Home Areas, including a dedicated special care unit. Our home is licensed to operate 114 long-term care beds, with 4 beds designated as Veterans’ Priority Access beds.

We are committed to delivering the highest quality of care in a comfortable, safe, and clean environment. Our facility also includes a specialized palliative care room, ensuring residents receive the appropriate level of support throughout their care journey.

Can you describe the care, services available in Long-Term Care?

At Saint Luke’s Place, we provide high-quality nursing care to support residents with their activities of daily living and clinical care needs. Our residents benefit from 24-hour physician coverage through our Medical Director, Home Physician team, and after-hours medical service.

Our dietary team prepares and serves three meals and three snacks daily, seven days a week. Menus are thoughtfully developed by our Nutrition Manager and Registered Dietitian, offering a variety of nutritious and appealing choices that accommodate individual dietary needs.

To ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment, our Housekeeping, Laundry, and Maintenance teams work diligently throughout all resident home areas. We also offer on-site hairdressing services to support residents’ grooming and personal care preferences.

Residents benefit from a vibrant Life Enrichment program, offering meaningful activities that promote engagement, connection, and overall well-being. In addition, our Chaplain services provide spiritual care and support for residents of all faiths and backgrounds, as part of our holistic approach to care.

We are also proud to have a dedicated palliative care team that provides compassionate, person-centred support for residents and their families during end-of-life care—ensuring comfort, dignity, and emotional well-being.

I am interested to learn more about Long-Term Care – what are the costs, and how do I apply for admission to Long-Term Care?

Long-term care homes in Ontario are publicly funded and operated by licensed providers such as Saint Luke’s Place, offering health care and daily living support for individuals whose needs can no longer be met in the community.

These homes are licensed and regulated by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, which sets the standards for care and oversees compliance. The province has established laws and regulations to ensure a fair and equitable admission process, prioritizing individuals with higher care needs while also supporting those who remain relatively independent.

While the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care covers the cost of care services, residents are responsible for accommodation fees, which are standardized across Ontario and reviewed annually. Subsidies may be available based on income.

All applications and admissions to long-term care homes are coordinated through Ontario Health atHome (formerly Home and Community Care Support Services/CCAC). They will guide you through the process, including eligibility assessments, waitlists, and selecting preferred homes.
